Getting Unstuck

Wed Oct 14, 2009, 6:06 PM
I am in the longest creative doldrums of my life right now, and I am not sure how to get out of it. I can't seem to even force myself to draw or sketch, somehow I've convinced myself that I keep drawing the same things. My photography is on hold, at least of models, as I want to do it in a studio now, and that continues to elude me. Keep finding leads that end up slipping away. People tell me to remain positive and confident (those that even care that is, or even KNOW that I'm an artist), but it's difficult when I seem to be sinking further. Sites like dA seem to just show me what I *should* be doing and know that I could be, if only I had the time or drive or space or whatever other excuse my mind has been using. I dream of these things while wasting away my life at the day job, then I get home and just waste time online, then it's time for bed and the same old shit all over again. And the fact that NOBODY is buying my book ( [link] ) isn't helping.

I had the idea today of possibly trying hypnotherapy to remove whatever is blocking me. What do you think?

I have been artistically-inclined for as long as I can remember, and hope to remain so. Sadly I have not yet found a way to make it work for me financially, or at least enough to make me less dependent on day jobs, which would of course give me more time to be creative! I have barely a few hours a day to myself these days.

Another obstacle is atmosphere - ideally what I need is a quiet, live-in artist studio where I have the extra space for my art and photography. Unfortunately here in the Boston, MA area, this is financially out of reach right now.

Most of my current work is more photography-based, but I intend to learn both Flash and Illustrator to get back into drawing and bring it more into the 21st Century. Usually I would scan my drawings and work from there. Really an unnecessary extra step these days if you think about it.
